Vilano Shadow Road Bike – Shimano Review

The Vilano Shadow Road Bike is an all-purpose bike designed for biking beginners, fitness fanatics, and casual riders. It can be a great starter bike for people new to biking, as it sports all the necessary features, without going overboard. The price tag on this bike is easily affordable, but that doesn’t mean that there is any compromise in quality either. Vilano Shadow Road Bike is not only a worthy investment, but also exceeds riders’ expectations in many ways.

Vilano Shadow Road Bike - Shimano Review

The bike ships in an unassembled form in a decently packed state. Although the packaging is not great, unless your courier guy throws it around, there should be no damages to parts. Once you take it out of the box, assembling the bike is quite easy and you will be done with it in 15-20 minutes, or perhaps 5 more minutes if this is your first time. However, all new bikes require tuning up and we suggest you get it done from your local bike shop. Also, the bike comes with no tools. So you should have your own to set it up.

The bike sports Shimano STI shifters, which feature the latest control mechanism. The braking and gear changing mechanism is integrated into a single lever, which provides the most efficient way to control a bike. The bike sports 14 speeds, which is enough for most users. However, if you want 21-speeds, this is not the one for you. Even so, 14 speeds do a great job on this bike. Since the bike sports a 6061 Double Butted Aluminum Aero frame, it is lightweight and weighs only 23 pounds. You will clearly notice this lack of weight during uphill rides. So, the missing 7 more speeds won’t do much of a damage to the value of this bike. That being said, the shifters are situated at a slightly higher angle, meaning that there could be some difficulty for people with small fingers to reach for shifters.

The brakes are not Shimano, but the dual pivot alloy calipers work like a charm. Together with Shimano shifters, they afford the most precise and finest braking experience in this price category. They are reliable and work perfectly even during wet conditions. The bike design allows it to dampen the vibrations significantly. Yet, there is a perceptible vibration on the bike, but nothing that cannot be overcome with padded cycling gloves. Apart from this, the bike offers an excellent riding experience. The lightweight aluminum frame and its aerodynamic design offer little resistance against wind. Reaching speeds as high as 17-20 MPH should be quite easy.

The bike is quite convenient to maintain too. It has quick release wheels, both on the front as well as rear. This comes very handy when you are changing tires, tubes, or during some other repairs. The Vilano Shadow Road Bike is offered in three sizes – small (50 cm), medium (54 cm), and large (58 cm). It is compact, light, strong, easy to use, reliable, and easily affordable. If you are tight on budget, this is the best choice for you.
